Golf tourney prevails as rain threatens

It was a cloudy day, but 74 players kept swinging through intermittent sprinkles to play 18 holes in Sunshine 811's annual golf tournament May 19, 2018.

It's been a wet year in Central Florida. "We were keeping our fingers crossed for this year," Brad Martin, Sunshine 811 liaison and tournament coordinator stated. "We haven't had a cancelled tournament in 20 years! But, luck would have it that the showers held off until the end."

"We'd like to thank the 17 sponsors whose generous support helps us make this tournament possible," adds Martin. "Please check out their websites."

First place goes to the team of Sanford Firefighters Spencer Green, Johnathon Kraft, Matt Morelli and Dominic Petracca. They certainly don't need saving on the golf course!

Coming in second was the team from Wiggins: John, Robin Burr, Larry Ellsworth and Gerald Wiggins.

Our last place team got to take home the bobble head trophies and, as some like to say, the team that had too much fun: Juan Gulloso, Mike Drobish, Raymond Nason and James Villarreal.
